Ex Singer, Freddie (Farid) Aguilar

Ferdinand “Freddie” Pascual Aguilar was raised by his parents as a Roman Catholic and at a young age he kept on asking his parents why they need to worship too many saints including their images if they believed that there’s only one God? This question push him to become strong in his belief when he reached the adolescent age by inculcating in his mind the biblical commandment, “thou shalt have no other gods before me.“ – Exodo 20:3 (Bible, KJV)
In the year 1983, he became Born Again Christian, but this new found faith didn’t satisfy his spiritual journey, that’s why in 1986 he stop attending any Christian religious groups and congregation, instead, he prayed alone asking for guidance and blessings.
After several decades of spiritual struggle, God gave him light by showing to him slowly the way that will lead him to understand Islam as a religion and way of life. When he met some of his Muslim friends they told him that the way he reasoned, talked, act, and deal with different kinds of people shows the ideal behavior of a good Muslim, but that doesn’t easily make him utter the Shahada (Testimony of Faith) because during that time he couldn’t find a Qur’an translated in Tagalog.
Until, when he wrote a song Maguindanao (a story of massacre and brutal killings in Mindanao) he became close to Muslim families and friends of Mayor Jong Mangudadatu and Governor Toto Mangudadatu wherein he decided to be under the fold and tenets of Islam.
On November 22, 2013 he formally and wholeheartedly accepted Islam as his religion and way of life by publicly announcing that, “There’s no other god worthy of worship except Allah and that Muhammad (pbuh) is a slave and the final messenger of Allah. He adopted the Muslim name, Farid and is now happily living with his wife, who is also a reverted Muslim.
